Event Report: Strength and Power Training for Golfers
3-4 July 2008, Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, London

TGA, along with world-renowned Olympic weightlifting coach Harvey Newton, held the UK's first Strength and Power Training for Golfers seminar on 3-4 July 2008.

This sold-out course, which attracted physios, golf coaches and strength and conditioning coaches, took participants along the exercise continuum - postural awareness, stability and mobility training and bodyweight exercises - and also featured all aspects of strength, power and golf-specific training including the use of Olympic lifting (snatch and clean & jerk), strength training, medicine ball, rope and sandbag training. The hands-on nature of the course left most participants pretty exhausted by the end of the two days!

TGA plan to run a series of these hands-on practical workshops, where golfers of all levels can experience and learn the true values of correct strength, power and golf specific training.

Feedback from course participants was hugely positive, including:

"Found the course fantastic and well worth every minute, although I wasn't so clued-up prior to attending the course about golf training. This course is definitely going to help my clients enjoy playing golf on a social level whilst getting fitter and more powerful."

Ben Camara - Strength and Conditioning Coach, Surbitton, Surrey

"Once again, thanks for a great two days. Meeting you and Harvey was an absolute pleasure. as was the information presented by you all."

Chris Laing - CLT, London

"At last, I have found somebody that embraces true strength and power training. Excellent two days, I cant wait to put it into practice with my pupils. Thank you to you all."

Mark Johnson - PGA Coach, Manchester
